Moving Ahead

Moving Ahead

At Moving Ahead, we are on a mission to revolutionise the world’s workplaces, by advancing diversity, equity and inclusion.  We create inclusive organisations, leading the way with mentoring programmes that connect people together and storytelling that inspires and develops leaders.

Our flagship cross-company mentoring programme with the 30% Club offers structured developmental mentoring. It is the world’s largest and has supported over 16,000 individuals across 220 organisations.  We believe in the power of human connection to make the world a better and more inclusive place for everyone.

Founded in 2014 by social entrepreneur and learning specialist, Liz Dimmock, Moving Ahead designs and delivers the UK and global digital mentoring programme for the 30% Club. We have scaled this programme, creating proven results and impact to develop the pipeline and parity of people in leadership roles. Moving Ahead brings experience, research, subject-matter experts and technology in mentoring to the 30% Club campaign. This programme was founded by Baroness Helena Morrissey in 2012 with EY’s initial instrumental leadership and support.

There were eight participating companies and 70 participants in the first year. Moving Ahead became the delivery partner with the objective to scale the programme’s impact and reach. We have since grown the programme to reach over 17,000 mentors and mentees across hundreds of organisations in a wide range of sectors. While the programme started out with a focus on progressing women, it has rightly evolved to provide opportunities for people from all underrepresented groups. We now run two structured, nine-month programmes; Mission Gender Equity, which welcomes mentees identifying as women, and Mission Include, which supports all protected characteristics as well as broader diversity strands such as socio‐economic background, thinking styles, and all intersectionalities. Both programmes require participants to put forward male and female mentors who are senior manager to Board level. Our programmes have been the springboard for a vibrant community and network of leaders committed to positive change for themselves and their organisations.

In addition to running these programmes, we also create bespoke programmes for employers – contact us to find out more.

Employers play a key role in #socialmobility outcomes for many.

They determine where they set up their business, the types of job roles they create, and how and who they recruit; the income set by employers impacts living standards, pension contributions, as well as spending power in their local economy; they also play an important role in the health and wellbeing of employees.

However, with each part of the UK having an individual identity, history and economy, impacting its local population and their opportunities, the challenges to social mobility, and the solutions, may differ from region to region.

That’s where we think the use of our new #Data Explorer tool can help – join us at this event on 7 June at 12pm for employers to find out how you can utilise our new tool to understand your workforce distribution; provide insight for outreach activity and hiring activity; and to serve and support regional communities.
