Social Mobility Employers Masterclass 2021 Series: Outreach

Event date: 25/02/2021
Event time:
Location:

On 25 February, we will be holding the first in our 2021 Masterclass series for employers – exploring how you can reach, attract and foster a diverse pool of talent.

Outreach is about attracting candidates who may not traditionally apply for roles within your organisation, yet may be able to make a significant contribution in future. These could be the ‘bright stars’ of tomorrow, but may not hold traditional academic qualifications or come from a deprived area.

The pandemic has presented some unique challenges for employers and candidates alike, but also new opportunities – such as widening access in social mobility ‘cold spots’. We will look at some of key lessons to be drawn from remote working.

  • Introduction to Outreach by the Social Mobility Commission, leading advocates for social mobility, in which we will outline some of our top tips for employers.
  • Hollie Crompton, Social Mobility Lead at PwC, will look at lessons learnt during the pandemic and key recommendations for building a strong programme going forward.
  • Rachael Saunders, Education and Policy Director, Speakers for Schools, will discuss their work addressing social mobility through work experience and influential speakers.
  • Breakout session in which to explore ideas, share insights and discuss challenges; chaired by experts from the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Speakers for Schools, Association of Accounting Technicians, Aspiring Solicitors, Department for Opportunities, PwC, PRIME and DWF.

This session is aimed at employers in any industry, predominantly decision makers – Head of HR, Head of D&I. We welcome organisations, at any stage of their journey. Following the event we will be sharing a check-list to help you refine your ideas and develop a ‘best-practice’ outreach programme.

Given the success of our series last year, we are running our 2021 masterclasses on the same topics – but taking a fresh approach and building on any insights shared in previous sessions. The themes of our upcoming events will be Data, Hiring, Progression, Culture & Leadership, and Advocacy, details to follow soon.

We hope that you will join us for what should be an informative and inspiring session.
